The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is in a pre-campaign phase to fund expansion and renovation of our Simi Valley Family YMCA.
Our goal is to welcome and make room for all members of our community!
BUILDING A STRONGER SIMI VALLEY TOGETHER
We are leading a county-wide effort to raise funds to expand our Simi Valley Family YMCA and make vital improvements that will allow us to create a community hub for all community members and continue to support Simi Valley’s growing needs, create diverse and safe spaces for our community’s families and so much more. Together, let’s Imagine, Inspire and Invest in our Y.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
SUPPORTING YOUTH AND FAMILIES
In today’s technology-driven world, it is harder for young people to develop the skills, assets and experiences to grow into healthy, well-adjusted, happy and productive adults. In many two-parent households, both parents have to work to provide for their children, while single parents are struggling to make ends meet and provide for all their children’s needs. All families benefit from community partners like the Y - to help them support the healthy development of their children.
One of the learnings through the pandemic has been the value and impact of schools and Y’s collaborating and mutually supporting youth in their academic pursuits as well as social and emotional learning and physical fitness. While many public schools do not have funding for physical education, the Y provides a variety of sports and fitness activities. A larger expanded facility will allow the Y to dramatically increase the after-school youth fitness and enrichment activities to meet this need.
CARING FOR OUR ADULTS AND SENIORS
The Simi Valley Family YMCA welcomed adults and seniors back after the pandemic to safely socialize and resume their health and exercise activities. Many Y members have commented what a blessing the Y has been for the health and well-being. With an enlarged facility, the Y is poised to expand and provide more space that will allow for adding innovative classes for adults and seniors to continue to exercise, socialize and thrive.
A market study conducted by the Y in 2022 found that there is no hub or community center where families and all members of the community are welcome and where activities exist for all ages.
The report reveals an exciting opportunity for our community! By providing a new gymnasium, multipurpose spaces and upgraded facilities, we can create a vibrant hub for youth, teens, adults and seniors to enjoy recreation, sports, and enriching activities. These spaces will be essential for building relationships, impacting lives and strengthening our community while creating lasting memories. Additionally, there's a clear demand for family-friendly activities that cater to all ages and interests. This is a fantastic chance to build a welcoming space where everyone feels connected and empowered.
Simi Valley faces pressing challenges, including mental health, chronic disease prevention and social cohesion. Our youth grapple with unprecedented mental health, physical and academic hurdles, while adults encounter mental health, chronic disease and social isolation concerns. Additionally, our senior population seeks opportunities for socialization and maintaining good health. The Simi Valley Family Y is uniquely positioned to address these issues by promoting physical fitness, healthy living, strong relationships, and essential life skills.
Simi Valley Family Y's new facility will have the potential to reach 3,000 or more households to welcome everyone—all ages of youth, teens, adults and seniors with programs that enrich the quality of life for all.
